Opening: FNCCI is looking for 2 Interns

FNCCI is looking for 2 Interns for it’s recently established Energy Efficiency Centre (EEC)

The Energy Efficiency Centre (EEC) is a new established unit under the umbrella of FNCCI which aims to bring energy efficiency on the top agenda and provides energy efficiency related services in Nepal. EEC will conduct awareness raising activities in this field and build up a fundamental database on energy efficiency issues in the Nepalese private sector. It will provide training, provide energy auditing services for entrepreneurs and give advisory services on formulation of energy efficiency policies and strategies.
Therefore, EEC is currently looking for 2 interns (minimum duration 3 months, preferred 6 months) who have basic knowledge on energy issues and are interested to develop knowledge and get experiences in the field of energy efficiency.

Openings: Research Advisor – Samriddhi Foundation

Samriddhi, The Prosperity Foundation (www.samriddhi.org) is an emerging not for profit public policy think tank based in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was founded in 2006 and started its operation in 2008. Samriddhi works with a vision of a free and prosperous Nepal. Its approach to realizing this vision is divided into three tiers of education and training, research and publication and public outreach and advocacy. It is being increasingly recognized as an institute that generates new
ideas to enhance the public policy discourse of Nepal. It runs successful programs on entrepreneurship and economic freedom. It has also been able to successfully conduct two campaigns – one on Democracy (www.democracyis.net) and another on the right to earn a living called Campaign for a Livable Nepal (www.livablenepal.org). It has produced several articles in mainstream national dailies and has published two handbooks on Enterprise Building in the context of Nepal. It has two major ongoing research projects on economic growth policies for Nepal.

Position Summary:
Samriddhi conducts an annual strategic plan which sets its agenda for the forth coming year. The strategic plan for 2011 has outlined strengthening the research capacity of the organization as its priority focus for 2011. In this context, Samriddhi is looking for a Research Advisor to work with the Research Team at its office based in Kathmandu, Nepal. The incumbent can be a Nepali or a non Nepali national.

The Research Advisor will be expected to guide the Research Team in their ongoing research from a public policy perspective as well as to equip them with quantitative and qualitative analysis skills. In addition, the Research Advisor is expected to help the Research Team present their findings through various papers such as Discussion Papers, Working Papers, Policy Brief, Position Papers, Policy Recommendations, Policy Papers etc.

Specifically, the Research Advisor is expected to:
– Enhance the research skills of the Research Team by guiding them through their research projects and introducing them to various techniques of data and information analysis.
– Guide the Research Team to prepare Discussion Papers, Working Papers, Policy Brief, Position Papers, Policy Recommendations, and Policy Papers etc.
– Help determine media positioning strategies and develop publications in line with the positioning.
– Guide the Research Team to identify new avenues of research and build appropriate research questions.
– Work in close coordination with the Management Committee and the Research and Publications Manager to ascertain research grants and help bid for these grants.
– Prepare quarterly reports on the progress made and recommend further training required for the Research Team to the Management Committee and Board of Directors.

Samriddhi is looking for Research Advisor with the following abilities:
– Ability to work in diverse teams.
– Ability to share knowledge and help other team members in terms of their capacity building.
– Skills of appreciative enquiry and constructive criticism.
– Ability to take self initiative and work in a non-hierarchical decision making environment.
– Ability to work with fairly young people.

Desired Qualifications:
Samriddhi is looking for a Research Advisor with the following qualifications:
– Has experience of working in an economic policy think tank.
– Has experience of conducting independent policy research.
– Has experience of producing research publications as required by the position (mentioned above).
– Has a good understanding of importance of market-led economy and the role of private sector in Economic Growth.
– Has some economics background in academics (preferable but optional).

Duration:
3 months (could be extended upto 1-2 years).
